Mosquito Control

Mosquito Control The Easy Way

Insects have been in existence for centuries, it has been very evident that most of them act as nature’s helpers; for example, butterflies and bees assist in the pollination of flowers, while dragonflies are known to hunt and feed on mosquito larvae. However, there are also some that have been termed as pests, like termites and mosquitos, because of the destruction or the diseases that they tend to cause and spread respectively.

Mosquito Control: Determining The Culprit

Mosquitos, although small, are the most common insects which are classified as pests, and are known to carry highly potent pathogens. Males feed on flower nectars and fruit juices but females on the other hand are known to feed on warm-blooded mammals including humans. It is essential for females to feed on a regular basis because it assists them in laying their eggs; and due to this need, the number of targeted hosts also increase together with the mosquito bite-related morbidity and mortality rates.

Destruction Of Breeding Sites: A Practical Mosquito Control Option

Mosquitos easily multiply as long as the breeding conditions are met; hence, the primary mode of control is through breaking the chain of reproduction particularly pertaining to the egg-laying sites. These pests lay their eggs on stagnant water, so in order to put an end on the egg-laying and egg-hatching process, it is important to consider the following practices.

Determine possible areas where water can accumulate including old tires, pet dishes, and other containers. If they are not in use, it is best to dispose the items or to keep them free from collecting water because it tends to become a very good breeding ground for mosquitos.

For areas where constant supply of water is necessary like swimming pools, it is best to clean it once a week. If permitted, use chlorinated water because female mosquitos do not lay their eggs on treated water; they only prefer clean, stagnant water.
