A young roach can squeeze into a crack that is only about 0.5 mm wide while an adult male manages into a space of 1.6 mm. Pregnant roaches need the widest space, at 4.5 mm. Conjure visual images of a crack as thin as a dime, a quarter, and two stacked nickels, respectively, and you get the picture.
