In addition, many countries utilize this six-legged member of the Formicidae family (close cousins with wasps and bees) in medicine, gastronomy, and religious rituals. So, the ant is pretty much a versatile insect.

Some people are very sensitive to ant bite and could develop severe allergic reactions that may require hospitalization. Moreover, some species are known to be carriers of diseases, making their bites all the more dangerous to humans (and animals as well).

Although these creatures are beneficial for ecological reasons, pest control measures are needed to prevent the formation of colonies in places where they become a nuisance and a threat to human life.
