Eradicating Rats From Your Home

Eradicating Rats That Cause Damage To Your Property

A rat gnaws indiscriminately through property, damaging walls, doors, food containers, cabinets – anything that it could sink their tiny teeth into. It is no wonder that the rat is considered one of the most troublesome pests to invade the home.

Eradicating Rats That Pose A Danger To Your Health

In addition to causing damage to property, the rat is identified as a potential carrier of several dread diseases, such as leptospirosis, murine typhus and the organisms responsible for the bubonic plague. These diseases pose grave danger to both humans and livestock.

Eradicating Rats: How To Spot Their Presence For Quicker Extermination

Rodent infestation in the home must be promptly dealt with. If there are no actual sightings of the rodent itself, signs of its presence may be detected around the house. Some of these indicators are as follows:

- rat droppings around food storage containers and feeding areas of pets
- smudged areas on walls, beams, or pipes where the rat might have rubbed its fur against
- evidences of rat’s nests in firewood stacks, couches, or drawers
- gnawed portions of containers, walls, or parts of furniture.

Methods For Eradicating Rats

To manage an infestation in the home, measures for eradication and extermination should be applied. There are some components of successfully containing the havoc caused by rats, namely:

1. Population control, where the method for eradicating rats is by systematically eliminating easy access to shelter and food and water sources.

2. Good housekeeping practices in and around the house could do so much in staving off and eventually eradicating rats inside the home. Sanitation methods require the full cooperation of every member of the household, considering that if these methods are not appropriately sustained, the rat colony can quickly return.

3. Rodent proofing involves sealing cracks and openings in the walls (and other access points) of the house, which the rats use as entryways. It is, by far, the most effective method of eradicating rats from the home, which provides a long-lasting solution to rodent infestation.
