Fumigant is a chemical which, at a required temperature and pressure, can exist in a gaseous state in sufficient concentration to be lethal to targeted pests. This implies that a fumigant acts as a gas in the strictest form of the word. Thus the normal thermal fogging or Ultra Low Volume (ULV) spraying cannot be correctly termed as fumigation.
In Singapore, fumigation by means of Methyl Bromide Gas, Hydrogen Cyanide Gas and Hydrogen Phosphide Gas are carried out in accordance to the Regulations under “The Hydrogen Cyanide (Fumigation) Regulations 1989″. All fumigations are monitored by the Port Health Department. Site inspections may be carried out by the Environment Health Inspectors to determine all safety aspects are adhered to. Major’s is among the very few companies licensed to carry out fumigation using Methyl Bromide, Hydrogen Cyanide and Hydrogen Phosphide. We are accredited by AVA to carry out ISPM 15 Fumigation which was developed to address the global spread of timber pests by regulating the movement of timber packing and dunnages to International trade. Our company also has fumigators Accredited by the Australian Quarantine And Inspection Services (AQIS) whose standards are extremely high.
OUR FUMIGATION SERVICES INCLUDE :
- All commodities
- Timber pallets
- All Classes of Ships
Stored Product Pest Fumigation
Because the most commonly used fumigants are toxic to all forms of life, it is possible to control most pests using this one treatment method. It is also the most rapid form of treatment method as compared to the normal baiting and residual spraying method.
Fumigants will also penetrate into and kill pests in areas inaccessible to typical contact and residual pesticides. In Singapore, fumigation is the most widely used treatment method for the control of Stored Product Pests in warehouses that stores rice, cocoa beans, grains, flour and other commodities. This treatment method ensures that the commodities will not be damaged by the stored product pests.
Antiques and Furniture Fumigation
Wooden artifacts and furniture are very likely to be attacked by Wood Boring Beetles that use the wood for nesting and food source for the larvae. They create unsightly tiny holes on the wood and damage the inside of the wood. A tell-tale sign of wood boring infestation is the sighting of a small mound of fine dust directly below the holes in the furniture. Fumigation, using methyl bromide, will eliminate all stages of this Wood Boring Beetles. But since the fumigant does not leave any residual effect, the treated materials might be re-infested by the Beetles if proper care is not taken.
Fumigation of Delicate Artifacts and Furniture
Be it fumigation of Cargo Hold for Commodities, Deratting of Vessel or Pest Management for Cockroach and Rodent on a Ship, Major’s Pest Management Services has the expertise in providing such services. We have the expertise in fumigating merchant vessels for bulk cargo that must meet Phytosanitary requirements and we also provide deratting fumigation for the vessels using Hydrogen Cyanide Gas. We have successfully carried out Phytosanitary Fumigation for grains on board ship cargo holds to meet the Phytosanitary requirement of destination ports.
Our Australian Fumigation and Accreditation Scheme competent fumigators have put us in good stead and so far, none of the ships that we have fumigated have met with any Phytosanitary problems at the destination ports. Do call us for any of your ship’s fumigation needs and Major’s Pest Management Services can be relied upon to do a good job. [/wptabcontent]
Commodities inside containers that are exported to certain countries, at times need to be fumigated to fulfill either contractual obligations or for quarantine purposes. Major’s Pest Management provides fumigation services to meet these requirements and the certification that we provide is recognized worldwide.
You can be assured that your cargo will be treated according to the standards set by National Plant Protection Organisations(NPPO). We strictly follow the guidelines set by our AVA (Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore) as well as AQIS (Australian Quarantine and Inspection Services) to ensure that our clients will not have any unpleasant incident such as infested cargo when exporting their cargo to such countries.
ISPM 15 Fumigation
ISPM 15 is the ‘International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures Publication No. 15: Guidelines for Regulating Wood Packaging Material in International Trade’. ISPM 15 was developed to address the global spread of timber pests by regulating the movement of timber packing and dunnages in international trade.
The United Nations Food & Agriculture Organisation (FAO) addresses plant quarantine through the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC). The IPPC is an international treaty administered by the FAO and implemented through the cooperation of member governments.
What is timber packing and dunnage?
- Packing is used to support, protect or carry a commodity.
- Packing includes dunnage, pallets, crating, packing blocks, drums, cases, load boards, pallet collars and skids.
- Dunnage is used to secure or support a commodity but does not remain associated with the commodity.
Bark from timber has the potential to contain numerous pathogens of quarantine concern. It also acts as a shelter site for insect pests and encourages post treatment infestation by both insect and pathogen pests. The presence of bark also hampers inspection procedures and may reduce the effectiveness of methyl bromide fumigation.
Major’s Pest Management Services is an AVA Accredited Company to carry out Phytosanitary Treatment. This includes the application of Methyl Bromide Fumigation Treatment and IPPC Marks defined under the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ie ISPM 15) for Solid Wood Packaging.
